Celebrating young people on work experience
Celebrating Woking’s young people! We are so inspired by the work ethic and creativity of the young people of Woking who volunteer, gain skills and have brilliant ideas. One of the activities we really love is to host work experience students towards the end of the school year! They contribute so much. Thanks to Harry, Anastasia, Hayley and Pravanya who have done some amazing work in their week with us. We try to mentor and involve those on work experience in every aspect of running a community cultural and live music space from the pre work given and done under their own initiative, strategy, to preparation of venue through to running live events. It also covers things like managing your own time, health and safety, and all the things that any employer expects.
From researching and investigating community business models so they can see how communities can empower and contribute economic growth to support everyone, designing and painting artwork inside the venue, helping to paint the new hoarding covering the smashed glass, gardening, cleaning, shadowing and assisting the stage and sound & light engineers and having a go themselves, helping load up stuff for our Guilfest tent, attending marketing meetings, researching threats and opportunities, giving us suggestions on marketing approaches, undertaking marketing roles, filming accessibility videos and ambassadors out in the public. It is hard to believe none of them have left school yet. It is not hard to believe that whatever they choose to do in any industry it will be the better for it. They have made a mighty contribution and been amazing work colleagues and respected members of our team. The week flies by but we are lucky they often come back to get more involved!
