Enda McCabe

Irish singer songwriter Enda McCabe joins us as part of Woking Roots: Ground Up, Live to share songs and stories in Irish and English

Enda McCabe from Galway is a valued and acclaimed part of the Irish music scene. Gigging extensively for many years in Ireland and the UK he shares his songs and stories in both English and Irish from 3-5pm on Sunday 18 October

Ahead of his show at Fiery Bird on 18 October, he has agreed to hold a traditional Irish Song workshop from 12pm-1.30pm where he speaks of the influence of Frank Harte, song collector and singer, a huge influence on him and many others, as well as songs in Irish. However, as he says 'Participation is the thing and anyone who comes has their own songs, ideas etc. Everything goes into the mix!'

Limited numbers so book early for this fantastic event brought to Woking as part of our Woking Roots: Ground Up, Live Arts Council Programme reflecting the diverse communities of Woking. 

You will see down Walton Rd, roads like Kilrush and Kerry Terrace, Irish labourers built Sheerwater after the war, Woking had a very active and large Irish association, holding dances, celebrations, cultural events like a regular Fleadh and St Patrick's Day events at Woking Centre Halls.

Grassroots Music Showcase

We are very proud to continue to present this night of excellent new music now in it’s 15th year, from the best songwriters and musicians on the grassroots circuit and this one is another treat


Andrew Maxwell Morris is an English singer, songwriter and composer. Beyond his own records he works as a film and television composer, with production music for Cavendish and EMI placed across ITV, Channel 4 and Sky Sports.

His songs have travelled far in film and TV and reached the top of the charts around the world whilst his song, Dust has now amassed over 1.6 million streams across Apple Music and Spotify combined.

A perennial presence at Glastonbury every year from 2008 to 2023 with sets featured in national press and highlighted as Best New Bands. He has supported Marillion on a UK tour, and opened for blues legend Peter Green on his national tour. Three albums —Well Tread Roads (2014), Save the Light (2020) and his 2022 self-titled, with three tracks produced by Dave Meegan — chart the path of an artist who keeps moving and keeps writing.

They reflect feelings that many of us experience, she sings the velvet glove over the iron fist of resolve her songs share.  Famous for her collaborations both with her own music, in the studio Celia is also part of the team that run The Loft monthly nights of presenting the best in original music near Basingstoke. Her performances are much sought after across the South East and beyond.

This amazing trio have been playing for over 10 years across the south, from Kent to Penzance bringing their incredible sound to pubs, clubs, wine bars, small festivals and theatres. Recommended to us by many gig goers and promoters who have seen them, we thought it was about time we got them here in Woking!

Multi Cultural Poetry Night - Sober Space

Come and share poetry and writing with us, whether your own, or of a poet that inspires you, or just enjoy hearing others. Read in whatever language you feel most comfortable to use. For beginners starting out, writers trying to work through new ideas or experienced performers and writers sharing their work and inspiring others to try. This is a gentle, encouraging space for people to feel comfortable and gain confidence to write or perform. Also space available for those who may like to take time to write, inspired by a change of scene in a different, supportive, creative environment. £1 Entry on the door. On the second Monday of the month the whole Phoenix Cultural Centre including the Fiery Bird Venue is a sober space and can admit ages 14+. The bar is open only for sales of zero and soft drinks and tea and coffee. No alcohol will be served. Over 18’s are welcome to join the Fiery Bird Venue open mic afterwards which runs until 10.30pm
